Before The Big Bang Theory wrapped up in May 2019, CBS ordered two more seasons of Young Sheldon, guaranteeing its third and fourth seasons. As time went by and the prequel continued to establish itself, the network awarded Young Sheldon an additional three-year renewal in 2021, extending its run until season 7, which will air between 2023 and 2024. This means that after Young Sheldon season 6, The Big Bang Theory offshoot still has one more year, and then CBS gets to decide whether to extend it beyond that point or not.

Young Sheldon Season 6 Cast: Will All The Actors Return?

The core cast of Young Sheldon is expected to return for Young Sheldon season 6. Meanwhile, supporting characters like Ed Begley Jr.’s Dr. Linkletter and Wyatt McClure’s Billy Sparks will no doubt appear sporadically throughout the year. Firstly, Georgie and Mandy’s pregnancy, and secondly, the continued breakdown of the Coopers’ marriage, which will lead to George’s cheating scandal and death.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Young Sheldon, much like the rest of Hollywood, had to adjust to the circumstances at the time. That meant shorter seasons and delayed premiere dates. As the global health crisis dwindles and studios get back to their normal workloads, it’s safe to say that Young Sheldon season 6’s premiere will be back on its typical September date — either during the third or fourth week of the said month. It’s difficult to say when exactly it will return to the airwaves, but it is confirmed to maintain its Thursday night timeslot.
